December 11 - UNICEF Day

Image
"History will judge us by difference we make in the everyday life of children" - Nelson Mandela Dear students, Today, the 11th Day of December is the UNICEF day. On this day, in the year 1946 UNICEF was established. Did you know the full form of UNICEF? The full form of UNICEF is United Nations Children's Fund. When it was established, the full form was United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund; but In 1953, the organisation became a permanent agency of the United Nations. While “International” and “Emergency” were dropped from the official name, the acronym remained the same.  Its primary purpose is to provide humanitarian aid to children around the globe. It helps people whose lives and futures were at risk. While the fund was originally meant to be a relief fund to help children after World War II, it later became a permanent organisation in 1953. It did not matter what role they played during the war. Its focus was to provide supplies, and assistance an...

Dear students, we must have heard about hippopotamus and some of us are luckier to see it in zoos. But how many of us know about the amazing animal ? Let us know some of the amazing facts about them...   The Hippopotamus or hippo is found only in Africa. They are the third largest mammal on earth. It is smaller than the rhino but still huge. - an adult hippo weighs around three and a half tones. It is an even-toed ungulate, which means that it has four toes on each foot, each  toe ending in a hoof like nail.  Hippopotamus love water, which is why the Greeks named them the " river horse". Hippos spend up to 16 hours a day submerged in water. This keeps their massive bodies cool. Hippos are good swimmers, and can hold their breath underwater for up to five minutes. They are often large enough to simply walk and stand on the lake floor.  Their eyes and nostrils are located high on their head, which allows them to see and breath while their bodies remain underwater. Hipp...
