 Dear parents, students and readers,

At first I take the opportunity to wish you a very happy and prosperous new year on behalf of us. We celebrate the new year eve with the hope and enthusiasm to do better in every coming day of the new year, keeping aside the failure of past year. So, this is the time to take resolutions and fulfill them.

In this year let us take a resolution to give more quality time to our children by understanding them with a heart of a child. In today's article and for few upcoming articles we shall discuss about few areas where we can do better in giving quality time to our children.

Today let us discuss about Nurturing Talents of Children.

Many times parents come to us and say in the tone of complaining, "My child is more interested in drawing and playing with things than studies". The child's interest in drawing shows that she has an inborn talent for drawing. But studies can not be neglected too. Here are some important points to keep n mind in this issue.

As a parent you should find out the child area of interest. The interest may vary according to the child's age, circle of friends, lifestyles etc. But the point to note that the most genuine interest will remain with the child as he grows. So, the child needs your support to reach the heights in that field. Here listing a few of the ways to detect and help your kid’s talent to shine in his area of interest.

1. Finding Time To Do Things

“Baba, let me finish homework then I will prepare a card for you, “my 9-year-old son says. This implies that he has a special liking for chess. And a sign for me to understand that.

In a turn, what we as a parent should do is to help them out in getting this done by arranging necessary books, training, stationery and needful. They may not do well at first place but continuous motivation and support help them to refine their talent.

2. Asking And Enquiring New Things

If you are noticing your kid is querying about something new, not sometimes but every now and then, you must be aware that he has some liking/Interest in it. During Covid situation, children got exposure to online kind of things. So, a child may ask how to become a YouTuber? What we have to do to become YouTubers? Do we have to join any classes to become a YouTuber?

These are the queries which put parents in dilemma whether to encourage her or discourage her....Let's think it differently. That very question imply that kid is having a talent for showcasing herself. You must help her in getting clicked and making videos also uploading them to your near and dear ones to get her appreciation. Help her enrich with confidence. But make sure you must conform to the safety and security of online exposure. 

3. Opportunity Finder

It is always not good to be in the top 3 in marks in class, but not more than 3 students be there in top 3. So, being a football team captain and dancer of the class matters too. We as a parent should always have eyes on opportunities where our kids can perform, participate, and show talents. You can help them in participating in events and shows where they actually feel inner happiness on their own.

4. Talk And Take

Talking with your kid about his/her interest, and having healthy discussions with them on their talents will be beneficial for kids to develop themselves. In continuing to talk, take them to places which will be helpful for them in nurturing their talent like for a science lover visiting the planetarium or science centre and participating there in various activities, for history lovers visiting museums, for artists visiting an art gallery, and so on will always be an add-on for them to glow and shine.

5. Gifting For Talent Building

Gifting color box to your artist kid, sports accessories to your champ boy, storybooks to writer kid, fashion accessories to your makeup lover gal will surely help them to enhance their activities more in a positive direction.

6. Encouragement Is Always A Key To Grow

Every kid has any sort of talent or other, if you know and sort out your kid’s uniqueness, you can help them in nurturing by respecting and encouraging their specialties. Appreciating and raising kids’ talents by you will be the first achievement of your kid to shine bright.

But at the same time it is very important to keep both extracurricular activities and studies connected. For example, if the child is interested to showcase her videos, encourage her to make videos with any activity like recitation, experiment etc related to her studies. This way you can connect your child's studies with interests.

Everyone has their own unique talent. It is never a good idea to force her what a parent likes. A parent should allow the child to choose what she wants to become. As a parent your role is to nurture those talents and allow her to achieve her dreams.
